Officially a (temporary) resident (I hope)

Since last weekend I moved into my new apartment, received my Danish residence card (which contains the biometrics I gave when I was in DC in November), ordered internet, and FINALLY opened a bank account. While I am still waiting for my yellow health insurance card, I am pretty much….almost….. sort of… finally settled!

When I first arrived, I was faced with the realization that (after 10 days) I would have no place to stay. As I have written before, my Air BnB host came to the rescue and let us stay until the end of the IMG_0055month. At that point, I purchased all of the bus passes (klippekorts) that I would need to get to and from work until I moved. I used these as a sort of countdown. A way of keeping track of how much time until I could be settled.

It was a total of three months between when I moved out of my apartment in Carrboro, NC and when I moved in to my apartment in Aarhus. Three months and ~10,000 miles. During that time I got rid of most everything and acquired the necessities back.

I now have these cards framed and hanging on the wall in my living room. I am aware, these are technically garbage. But these three, to me, are a reminder that things work out. Even when there is so much uncertainty. I am sure, eventually, I will throw them away. But in the coming months, I need this reminder.

Hopefully, this week I will get internet, get access to my bank account, and get my yellow insurance card! And then, I will really be officially, sort of, settled.
