The laws regarding land use on the shores here in Denmark have been changing over the last year. My understanding is the shores are meant to be public property such that anyone can walk across any part of the beach anywhere in the country. Recently, lawmakers have changed this so that private corporations can buy “beach-front” land for building or other purposes.
This sparked a protest unlike anything I have seen in the US. It was sponsored by a conservation NGO who distributed torches and lit a bonfire. Hundreds of people came. They had supplied 200 torches and RAN OUT before being able to distribute to everyone. Easily half of the people who showed up were torch-less.
It has been interesting for me to see how passionate people here about protecting the environment, their resources, and each other.
