People who know me well (and to be quite honest- people who have just met me) know that I do not like making decisions. It could be the result of my desire to please people, my astrological sign, or any of a number of reasons. (See?! I can’t even decide why I am indecisive!!!). As a result, I try to limit my options when facing major life decisions. For example, I only applied to 5 graduate programs, and was only accepted to 2, and chose the one that was closer.

So when I was finishing up my PhD, I attempted to take the same approach to applying to postdocs. Apply to one I want, wait to hear back, move on to the next. I thought I had this system really well worked out… but then somewhere around July it all fell apart. I ended up having to make a choice between five equally awesome opportunities.

After much agonizing, debating, talking, thinking, talking, deciding, undeciding, redeciding, I am starting a postdoc in Aarhus, Denmark this winter. My hope is that this blogs brings my family and friends along for the ride.
