In Denmark, they use week numbers rather than struggling with phrases like, “the first week in February”- does that mean the first full week or the week that contains the first day? When you stop to think about, week numbers make a lot of sense- but they take some getting used to.
We are currently in week one. I have a contract here until week 50 of this year. So week numbers are also a bit like a count-down. A ticking clock for my experiments, writing, job applications, etc. But this is just week one (I will just keep repeating that to myself). My first year has been about settling in and getting used to life here. My second year needs to be about finishing things and exploring what living in Europe has to offer.
At this point in time, I am very worried about how the new administration in the US will change science. I am worried how that will change my ability to secure a job. But these are things that only time will tell…
For the next 50 weeks, I will be experimenting, modeling, writing, and (hopefully) exploring. The rest I will have to take as it comes. Happy New Year!
