One week down, one hundred and three to go

Please don’t get the impression from the title of this post that I am counting down the minutes to the end of my post. Please do get the impression that I am marking down every little achievement as a big victory.

As of today, I have finished one week of work, I have figured out where I will (eventually) live, I have even figured out how and where to buy dog food (KC appreciates this last one a great deal). I knew coming in that taking up residence in a foreign country would be a process. I am beginning to think I might have underestimated how much of one…

I have found there to be no shortage of interior design shops here, which is excellent because (as you might recall) I have no things. I now have the opportunity to only buy things that I want. The other thing I have noticed is that a lot of wall art is weirdly positive (see photo). I love it, I just think it is interesting. A lot of them say things like- “smile even on a cloudy day” or “today is a good day to be happy”. I imagine people are leaving their homes in a sort of sour mood and then read their wall hangings and say to themselves, “you’re right- today is a good day to be happy”. IMG_0044

This week should hold lots of adventures. I will visit an apple orchard to attempt to collect some flies here in Aarhus, I will start practicing the new ways in which I will torture… I mean research insects, and I will hopefully hear back from all of the places we contacted to get estimates about when I can start our “real” experiments.

As much as things feel unsettled, they are starting to come together.
